View Full Version : Dual Core as a server?

I'm looking at a small client/server system for a local charity.
Obviously as a charity cash is tight, and as a server is required, I am considering a dual-core rather than dual processor. (MS amongst others charges per processor for client access, other software providers charge per proc for the software licence itself)

A dual-core seems a decent alternative due to the power savings (more energy efficient) and as the system is not going to be hammered (only a half dozen users who don't place huge demands on the system) I thought it a more cost-effective solution than dual-proc.

Anyone see any major problem here? dual-core procs should effectively do the same job as a dual-proc without the additional costs, so any feedback appreciated.

Also, has anyone come up against NVIDIA mobo problems on 64 bit systems regarding access to the net etc (I built a system for someone last year and as a limited user they had problems accessing certain things - the mobo beeped and it appeared that the NVIDIA security saw it as a privileged operation)
