View Full Version : Recommend a printer? :)
Hey folks... okay, the wife is bugging me that we need to get a printer, and she's right -- our current HP inkjet is 10 years old and on its last legs.
Ideally I think I really need an all-in-one -- we have no fax machine or scanner here and I could use them for both of our home offices. But the models seem to change every month -- any good suggestions?
Thanks. :)

 The owner of a computer help site is asking for help???? :D
I know. I know, no one person can know everything ;) Well IXL, as you stated things change every month. I have an HP 5510 all-in-one and have been quite happy with it. I have 2 other HP printers and I am equaly happy with them. As for a current recommendation?? Look for the best price for features offered. I like to watch the Target adds becuase most times I can find a decent printer for less then the cost of replacing ink in an older machine.
Unless you plan to go to laser, I would say just watch the adds and go with the best price of the day ;)
Thanks Frank.. appreciate it a lot. :)

I have an HP as well. The 5610 xi all in one and have been very happy with it. It's a cheaper all in one, but there are better models to suite your requirements if needed. HP's have performed very well for me in the past.
I just replaced an HP all in one a few months ago. The old one lasted through several years of major abuse from my wife scanning thousands and thousands (not kidding  ) of family photos.

The real questions we should be asking Charles are:
Inkjet or Laser?
Do your need color?
What is your volume of printing?
How much color do you print?
What is your budget for this project?
Do you want to connect this via:
Parallel
USB
Ethernet
Unless we know the answers to the above questions, we really cant recommend a model that meets his needs.
The HP 3390 (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/18972-238444-410636-12004-f51-1140785.html) is a really nice unit for a laser version.
These two models (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/18972-238444-410636-12004-f51-1140785.html) are if you need color laser printing.
These two models (http://h30216.www3.hp.com/ASA/Controller;jsessionid=06501619E8CCBFB51CFA393DBEA0 B692?tagid=06501619E8CCBFB51CFA393DBEA0B692$1$84$1 0447$en_US&state=1S4&_AD_195R22=110&r=-1506847392) are lower priced Inkjet all in ones.
This is just for HP and does not include Lexmark or Canon or any other manufacturer.

Cannon Pixma range is very good. I personally use the Pixma 4000 and couple of friends use othe rmodels and all give 9 out of 10 for cost effectivness and performance

Does it have to be a color printer? If not, I would recommend investing in a laser printer, they make your heart warm to have....--- I've never been satisfied by an inkjet printer and i have owned quite a few for the home.
