My pc is Windows XP with an AMD Barton 2500 and 1 gig ram.

After it has been running for a while, the screen freezes, and it emits a continuous beep. When I push the power button once, it exits Windows properly. When I turn it on again, I get a low chirping from the pc speaker during post, and then a black screen. Windows doesn't load.

This can happen after 10 minutes of running or 10 hours. I have checked the cpu temp during reboot, and it is never above 55 C., and all the fans are working.

I cleaned the memory and video card contacts and reseated them. Replaced the power supply 3 months ago.

I would appreciate any help.

55 C is a pretty high STARTING temp...it sure sounds like heat related problems.

Does your BIOS have an alarm temp set? If so, what is it?

And if you are starting near 55 C, then the machine's cooling is not adequate.

Thanks for your reply.

The starting temp is much lower. When it has been running for a while and I experience the problem and reboot, Then the temp is 55c.

I just rebooted to check the cpu temp. It is 52C after 10 hours of running. So I don't believe it is cpu heat.

Try plug in another RAM. It sounds like RAM problem...
