hey, how is everybody?

i'm thinking about making an effort to overclock a celeron 667 mhz, but am curious as to what i can push it to safely. i've heard you can redline it to 1.1 ghz, but that seems like a disaster waiting to happen. has anybody got any suggestions or experience with this regarding this project?

We usually do not reccomend overclocking, or offer advice concerning how to do it. It can be done, and in many cases without serious problems, but you would be much better off checking into a few of the overclocking oriented websites, some have forums and they are usually much better informed and qualified to offer advice than most of us are.

Due to lack of time I'm going to pass on looking up links, I usually do, but I'm sure some of the other folks here can post some very good links to websites that will have good info you can check out. They usually do. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

The one link I do keep handy is the PC Guide's Overclocking, the Dissenting Opinion (http://www.pcguide.com/opt/oc/index.htm), plenty there you should be aware of before attempting to tweak...I'm not saying don't try it, just be sure you are well aware of the risks involved and research it well before trying.

Generally we are more into helping ordinary users with everyday problems...not the "fun and games" of the ultimate tweak!

I would say if this chip is left over from an upgrade or not in a critical machine it would be something fun to try...after you weigh the possible problems, I wouldn't want to try it on my main machine or on an expensive new chip.

I grew tired of my 600MHz Celeron working perfectly, so I tried changing the 66MHz FSB to 100MHz; this would equal 900MHz. No go, even with the core voltage boosted by 10%.

Oh well, I guess I'm not too unhappy about having a CPU that uses a small amount of power, produces little heat, and performs flawlessly.

If you really want to overclock effectively these days, you need to be on the AMD platform.
