I am trying to help a person with there on line courses, I also realize that this is not appropriate-to ask the PC forums for homework scenarios.
I have tried all avenues and have come up blank.
Maybe someone would be kind enough to help with this oone question.
Question:
A pc manual says that the system contains 256K of on board cache, or 512 of pipeline burst SDRAM. From this info you know that >>
1. no jumpers are required
2.manufacture choose the cache with slower throughput speed
3.L1 cache isn't required.
4.a cache memory socket is probably used.
If someone can answer this question I would certainly thank you, if not I know rules are rules.

If the manual says the mobo contains one or the other, how you can be certain of anything? I suppose if I wanted to know what kind of cache was used, and how much, I would simply inspect the mobo for myself. Afterall, there's no telling if the manual was made for that specific model or an entire series. And for that matter, is the cache soldered to the mobo or installed in sockets? If it's the latter, how can you be certain that the mobo still has its cache if the chips are removable?
The wording of the question is rather odd, unless you made a typo. And the correct answer could be 1, 2, or 4 depending on several factors, not the least of which are the specs of the mobo. At the very least, it would be nice to know if the mobo in question is Socket 4, Socket 7, Super Socket 7, or another computer platform altogether (such as a Motorola-based Mac).
EDIT - Woah... creepy... This thread was moved while I was replying...

I moved this into Certification and Study courses by mistake. (Stopped before clicking the move but it went anyway.) Is that OK with you Saphalline?
Heck I just moved it back.

It's fine with me, it was just creepy. I went into Core Hardware and came out at Certification and Study. It was a bit disorienting.

Hehe that's funny! :D I would have thought you were used to traveling through worm holes by now though. :D :p

I hit the Back button instead of the execute move and the darned post disappeared!
I wormed it back to the Core Hardware forum, so deja vu.

Worm holes are cool! Especially if you subscribe to String Theory. I always imagine a huge 3D object like a worm hole crumpled up in multi-dimensional space like last week's newspaper. As long as you're working in 5D or higher, it works perfectly! :D

Yes thankyou what you have suggested is of crse more sense, and no there was no typo mistake. But I threw it in as a whim/and really should have put more thought in its integrity> At least I thank you for your time in the reply>

I don't think I'd be very good at those tests. :p I'd end up choosing 1, 2, and 4, and then attaching a few extra sheets of paper with all my explanations. :D Those tests simply don't do justice to the sheer number of possibilities that have existed in the world of computer hardware. I've seen so many wacky things in hundreds of computers stretching over the last 20 years that it makes my own mind reel.
