I've read that it is possible to use PC100 DIMMs with PC133. The PC133 should run at 100MHz, too. However, someone says that sometimes problems can present. :^(
I am using a MS 6167 mainboard with 196MB of PC100 RAM. Now I want to add a 256 PC133 module. What do you think?
Cheers
If the new memory is installed after the pc100 and your system bios is set to detect the speed from the simms/dimms it will read the first stick (Pc100) and set the speed to that .
Pc133 can run at 100 with no ill effects If it supports the same timing spec's as the pc100

Hey,
Check your motherboard manual to make sure it supports both speeds.
I always heard that the fastest module should go in the first slot that the system reads from.
PC133 is backward compatible. It will run at whatever system bus speed (FSB) you have, up to 133Mhz. However, if the motherboard is finicky about the speeds it will support, then you might be better off going with PC100. Again, the PC133 will only run at what the FSB is. If it's 100Mhz, then both the PC100 and PC133 will run at that speed.
Check your motherboard manual first, for supported speeds.

In the manual it is said that it "supports 3.3v PC100 SDRAM DIMM".
I am not interested in running the new PC133 module at 133MHz, I only want it to work with the two old PC100 modules at 100MHz. The fact is that I can't buy a PC100 module since here (Torino, Italy) nobody sells it anymore. There are only PC133 or higher DIMMs.
So, do you think I can add a new PC133 module to my configuration with two old PC100 modules?
Thanks
