Is the software Verizon sends you for the DSL modem any good? Or is there a way to set up the DSL modem without their software? I have come across quite a few people that were having problems getting the modem to work properly.

At one point one of the might ones here posted that the software was "buggy" and to go through a router. I just can't seem to find the post and was wondering if anyone else has an opinion about it.

EDIT: Found the original post where Classicsoftware helped me out a LOT. Thanks again :D However, I would still like to hear opinions about this. In anyone's experience with Verizon's software and their DSL package, has it worked well? Any of you use a router instead of the software?

DON'T USE THEIR BUGGY POS SOFTWARE.

If you are a verizon customer I suggest you look at Cavalaier Telephone. Better price and a static IP address and best of all. NO DOWN TIME.

I was under the impression that having a NON static IP was better. I thought it made it tougher for the hacking crazies to find you.

Also... I thought that DSL was ONLY non static IPs. Didn't realize other companies offered a static ip through DSL. Thanks again for the info Classic :)

With a NAT router and a software firewall, you are well protected enough. The advantage of a static IP is it is easier to connect from another PC.
