Alright Guys,

I have a delemma. I need to think about re-building a system that is about 3 years old. I got it before I knew anything about computers, now I know a little bit, but not enough to invest even 500 dollars with out proper research. I am College student with need for a faster more effiecient system.

I work with a lot of Midi and Write using Finale, fruity loops, reactor, etc. My current system is a Amd 400mhz with an unknown motherboard, voodoo banshee Video, and 128MB Ram. Hard drive space is no problem i fjust bought a Maxtor60GB HD. I need an effective solution for a little dough as my current hardware is starting to flake out even after reinstalling 98 twice with full software and hard ware upgrades.

I could spend more time but I have to go. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for a place to start please fire off an email or posting to me.

Thanx

Hey,

Go to www.accessmicro.com (http://www.accessmicro.com) and have them build you a barebones system that would include either a Pentium 4 or Athalon processor on a motherboard that supports DDR RAM. Check it out!

It looks like you have a decent computer. All you would need is probably a better sound card. I recommend the Sound Blaster Live! platinum 5.1
It has MIDI input and output, optical in and out, audio in and out, plus some cool perks on sound editing software. On that note, I recommend Sound Forge as a musicians editing program. It was the program that help make most of the music you here on commercials and even the Oscars. I personally have a copy of it and it's great! It's kinda pricey though. At $300, Sound Forge is a program you pay for. If you want to stem down, then just get one of Sonic Foundry's (hiphop, techno, rock,...) for the basic sound editing program and make your own loops and it would run you about $30. Don't worry about which style of music you get, the platform is the same for all.
