The system "had" an ABIT BH7 board which now needs to be replaced. I would like to use the 1G of memory from the system (PC2700) What is the recommendation for a budget to mid range board and cpu that will accept this memory?

What's your budget exactly? Right now, the only respectable mobo and CPU that would use DDR will be AMD Socket 939 stuff. You can get that cheap now, but I need a solid number to work with.

IF I could get a MBD and CPU combo in the 200-225 $ (or less :-)) I could manage that.

$95 - Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128301)
$104 - Athlon64 3700+ San Diego retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103622)
There ya go! SLI capability (should you so desire to use it) and a kick-a$$ CPU. Both of these are at prices that would have been inconceivable just 4 months ago.
