Are AMD actually going to ship the 5000+ this week or not.
It seems that everyone is filling their order books on back orders without giving a delivery date - and those that have given a delivery date are putting it further back week after week.
It's now mid August - some 2 months after launch of the 5000+ yet the UK sellers still cannot confirm when the shipment will arrive.
It's no wonder the 4600 and the 4800 are selling so well - people are getting impatient and who can blame then.
For those who actually want a 4600/4800+ X2 CPU, I think you should wait until the 5000+ hits the shelves in the UK because then the demand for the lower end X2 CPUs will drop and so will the prices.
For those who have a 5000+ on order, I know exactly how you feel.
Frustrating aint it?

The 5000+ was never intended to launch with the others. It's lagging by a good couple of months. I don't know why the vendors are promising 5000+ CPU's on their websites right now. The production simply isn't there to meet the demand. I could have told them that! Geez...
In any case, why would you want a 5000+? Unless you're going to OC it?

4600 X2 dont seem to cut the mustard. FX Range to high in £££s.
4800 X2 not far off price of 5000 and seems high in price considering its just an o/c 4600.
Of course - I'd prefer a 5200+ but I'd wait months.
I simply cant afford an FX - just spent £382 on MB & DDR
Anyway - I want to gloat to my friends lol :p

I was just worried if you had DDR2-800 RAM. At 2.6 GHz, the X2 5000+ is off balance for DDR2-800 RAM. So I figured you were going to OC it to 2.8 GHz. But if you don't have DDR2-800 and you just want the X2 5000+ for bragging rights, then go ahead!

2Gb Xpert 6400 C4.4.4.12 EPP auto overclock SPD
Would overclock to 2.8Ghz as standard anyway as odd number multipliers on the 5000 so would only optimize to 733mhz..... is that right?
And at 2.8Ghz pretty much not far off same performance as FX62 - yes?
And ..... the longer I have to wait for stock supply the more drawn I am to the 4000+ single core for the short term (say 9 months)... and save for the FX62 or 5200+ when thats released - You know what your talking about Saphalline - What would you do - I assume I can cancel the order being as it aint in stock and on back order?

Personally, I get my bragging rights from OC'ing! :D I upgraded recently, so now I have Socket 939 hardware (not modern but a lot better than I had!). My lowly A64 3000+ Venice wasn't much to look at... until I OC'ed it!
1.8 GHz stock. 2.1 GHz right now. And I'm still going with it. If I were you in your position, I would grab an NF 590 SLI mobo (since that's the only chipset capable of using EPP/SLI RAM) and the X2 4200+ as a temp CPU. Running at 2.2 GHz means that OC'ing to 2.4+ is a given, and playing the CPU:RAM ratio game gives you even more options. I don't know about you, but I find my real bragging comes from buying a sub-$200 CPU and OC'ing up to a $400+ CPU. I get the raised eyebrows in my crowd since OC'ing of that caliber is not a common talent. ;) Loop it through a few times in 3DMark 06 for even more respect among your peers. (Good investment 3DM 06, by the way - only $20 for the download.)
Once you've tasted that kind of speed, just sit around and wait for the new upcoming AMD CPU's. Due by year's end (we'll see) these new ones will be the 65nm retorts to Intel's Core 2 CPU's. 2MB L2 cache per core and even more powerful than AMD's current round-up. Forget the stupid 90nm X2 5000+! 65nm will be the emperors of this holiday season!

FX-62 2.80 GHz Dual 1 MB DDR2-800
X2 5000+ 2.60 GHz Dual 512 kB DDR2-743
X2 4800+ 2.40 GHz Dual 1 MB DDR2-800
X2 4600+ 2.40 GHz Dual 512 kB DDR2-800
X2 4400+ 2.20 GHz Dual 1 MB DDR2-733
X2 4200+ 2.20 GHz Dual 512 kB DDR2-733
X2 4000+ 2.00 GHz Dual 1 MB DDR2-800
X2 3800+ 2.00 GHz Dual 512 kB DDR2-800
3800+ 2.40 GHz Single 512 kB DDR2-800
3500+ 2.20 GHz Single 512 kB DDR2-733
3200+ 2.00 GHz Single 512 kB DDR2-800
Now here's something really interesting I found - it shows clearly the maximum memory clocks!

Cancelling my 5000+ - cant see point in having one.
That leaves the 4800, 4600, 4000, 3800
No point in 5000 and 4200. Dont think 1mb cache in 4800 worth while and both run at 2.4Ghz.
So 4600+ with 512Kb Cache it is - DO YOU ALL AGREE ?

Yeah, I downloaded a similar chart a couple months back. Shows all the CPU:RAM ratios and their corresponding RAM speeds. But what's wrong with an X2 5000+ if you OC it to 2.8GHz? Then you get back to DDR2-800. I thought that's what you were going to do?
