Hi all !
Hope U can be of help !
I have a 200MHz Cyrix 6x86 Processor running on Octek's Rhino 12+ Motherboard (Via VT82C580VPx Chipset). It has 2 EDO 72 pin slots and 2 SDRAM 168pin slots.
According to the manual, it should support up to 64MB SDRAM sticks.
When I tried to install them, I got only 16MB from each stick.
The memory sticks are Kingston, 66MHz, 8nsec, 3.3V (model: KVR-PC66/64).

a) What can I do to get the system to recognize the 2x64MB=128MB of memory?
b) If nothing can be done, do I really have 2x16MB=32MB of usable SDRAM ?
c) Is the system unstable in this case ?
d) Can I use my EDO with the SDRAM without system instability ?

(PS - I've heard this problem is typical with Intel's Vx chipset. Is this the case here ?)
Thanks,

From what i can gather on this particular board/chipset you should be able to use up to 512mb's in the SDram slots.

You can't use SIMM and DIMM together, sorry. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Does it recognize the correct memory amount upon boot? When it does the intial memory check in the BIOS?

I did notice a lot of info and warnings that this particular chipset will only accept certain types of SDRAM-8*8 chips instead of a 4*16 chip set, ( the no# of ram modules on a RAM stick ).

If it's correctly recognizing the memory amount upon boot in the BIOS, then check in windows using MSCONFIG in the advanced tab that " limit memory too.." is not checked.

You may have to either Update your BIOS or, Get the latest VIA chipset drivers

in order for this board to recognize your memory properly. Worst case scenario you'll have to buy a new mobo/CPU.

iisbob !
Thanks for the quick reply:

The BIOS DOES NOT recognize the correct memory amount upon booting.
The memory stick has 4 RAM memory chips - So I guess its a 4x16MB type of SDRAM - that may be the problem.
Will upgrading the BIOS and/or chipset drivers do the trick ?
Where can I get the updates ?
Thanks again.
