I cloned my xp hd to a 80 gig maxtor. It boots when connected as primary ide hdd "0" but when its connected and the bios set to boot from usb hd it starts to boot but once it gets to the win xp splash screen it reboots. Does xp in the boot.ini file expect to see the drive in a specific location as drive "c" or 0? Both my desk top and laptop act the same.
Nope...the problem is with Windows itself.
It probably reaches the point where Windows is loading the USB drivers...Windows resets the USB when it loads the drivers.
hey, bbiggs did you succeed in booting from usb HD?
I have the same problem. I though to solve it by using the new VISTA but neither xp nor vista seem able to boot from USB.
Do you have some good advice?
thank you in advance.
