Ok i have the following already

2 GB of Corsair XMS pc3200
Enermax 580 PSU
2 Maxtor 200GBm ata/133 harddrives

I recently had an asus a7n8x-e deluxe mobo with an xp3200 barton and an ATI x700 256MB G-Card.

But now i need a new processor mobo and G-Card.... so far i am getting

amd x2 4200 socket 939 £125
Abit AN8 SLi PCI-E SKT939 NF4 Retail Box £88

Thats 200 spent and i got about another 100-150 left for a Graphics Card, firstly does all the above sound good and compatable??

Now the G-Card some1 has recommended this - Gainward GeForce 6800GS "Goes Like Hell" 512MB GDDR3 TVO

and some1 else this XFX Ge Force 7900GT Extreme 256mb PCIE/Hdtv

the seconf being slightly over my price range, can ne1 advise me on a better card?? also should i consider only Nvidia cards on this motherboard??? Or should i consider them, if so would this card be good..... Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

any advice is greatly appreciated

Cheers Gary

You're keeping your RAM, aren't you? Ah well, Socket 939 is still cheap at least, but Socket AM2 would have been better. It does require new RAM, though. Something to think about...

Anyway, if you only have that much left for a vid card, you can't afford a 7900 GT or X1900 GT. I just can't see you getting either one for that price unless you steal it! ;) So dropping down to your price range, I'd recommend the 7600 GT. It's literally half of a 7900 GT (in terms of the GPU), and you can easily get factory OC'ed versions for around your budget. For the latest vid cards, there's really nothing else very compelling in that price range from ATI, so I'm recommending the 7600 GT almost exlusively.

BFG 7600GT 1400mhz/560mhz

Find it at Overclockers UK FOR JUST £74.95 plus VAT - was £97.95 plus VAT !

- hey, for £176 you could have 2 running in SLi

Hmmm... the exchange rates have changed slightly since I last checked. :p

If the prices are that good, you can probably squeeze in a 7900 GT. Even factory OC'ed versions are under $300 USD over here.

UK Prices are a rip off. Cheapest 7900GT over here is £170 - That's for a standard NON OC card. High end OC cards still way up at around £250.

Even on ebay TODAY XFX 7900GT XXX 1600mhz Mem 600mhz GPU
SECOND HAND - wanted £200 - granted he had put a £23 Zalman Cooler on it but still expensive for a card that has been used for a few months and by his own admission only cost him £230 when he bought it.

My opinion - buy the cheapest 7900GT you can find and overclock it to the max.

Better yet, buy two, so when you fry the OC'ed card you can use the other.
