Yeah, they deny the Osaka conference incident where a laptop publicly burned was the cause of the recall, yet they used that very one to investigate what caused the fire.
I hope my Toshiba is using Sanyo batteries instead of Sony.

I ran my model number, and it uses a Sanyo battery... Mine's a Toshiba Satellite M30.

Do you have a link to check?
I bet the folks at Tesla Motorcars are going to check theirs, that electric car runs on 6831 lithium-ion cells. (They said they were using the lithium cells as the computer companies were making big strides in storage capacity and driving down the costs).

I just googled the model number of the battery, and it came up as Sanyo something.
Also, this article suggests that Toshiba only uses Sanyo batteries (at least, they have an agreement with Sanyo, so it makes sense):

I had another article but lost it somewhere http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/eek.gif
And that would be something... forget the puny burning laptops, watch your Sony batteries in cars! Much more dangerous--I hope that Sony isn't just saying that they've changed the manufacturing process to get people to forget about this.

Try This Link (https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx). There is info there about model numbers etc.. ;)
Edit: Click Here (https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/batterymodels.aspx) to enter / check your Specific battery pack ID number.
There is a button right down the bottom of the page to enter it.. :p

Fred,
Those are the Dell recall links for users to check if they own Dell notebooks.
I was looking further since the batteries involved were produced by Sony and may be suspect in other brands. Azzey already found Toshiba uses Sanyo batteries so no Sony ones there.

Now it turns out those defective batteries that Dell told users to absolutely not use will take about a month to get replacements for:

Dell has increased the numbers of recalled batteries by 100,000, advising users to re-check their batteries against a new list.

Toshiba has decided to "exchange", not recall batteries that were SONY based, see this site:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlView.jsp?soid=1482876
Toshiba has a software tool to check if the bad lots are installed in the affected models, you download the file and it lets you know if the battery is one of the listed ones.

Lenovo/IBM has announced recall of 526,000 battery packs made by SONY from 2004-2006 after a fire in a laptop at LAX airport.
Toshiba's exchange involves 830,000 packs worldwide due to customer concerns with the issue. Toshiba's spokesman said it was "unlikely" Toshiba would pick up the cost of the exchange.

Now it appears it's not ALL Son'y fault. I read an article the other day (I can't locate it now) that said Sony only made the cores and the lap-top manufacturers were making the surrounding cases of thinner lighter material and that's why the problem has been increasing of late.........
