Hi...
I think I may take the plunge and try and build my first computer. First off I was wondering if one board is better than the other, such as ATX or AT.
I was thinking of going with the Intel 850 chipset with the ATX but I thought I would get some opinions first.

AT was the old standard for Towers/forms -motherboards; { Advanced Technology }-which was replaced by the ATX form standard { Advanced Technology Xtension }. Most, if not all, of today's home systems will be based on the ATX standard; so that's the way to go. Unless you've come across some old PC's at a good price, you'd do best to stick to the current standards.

With ATX, when you select "Shut Down" in Windows (if that's what you use), your computer will actually shut itself down.
In XP, go to "Power Options" in Control Panel, select the "APM" tab, and tick on the checkbox for "Enable Advanced Power Management Support."
