I am looking at buying a new computer, for both buisness apps as well as games. I have picked out all of the internals except the most important one... the processor. In your oppinions, looking at 1.4 GHz or greater, which is the better chip the athelon, or P4. I know the Athelon is cheaper in price, but i have been at a loss to find any information on the comparison of these chips.
Also one of the many dealers I have found on the internet is alienware.com (http://www.alienware.com)
Has anyone heard anything about this company, or suggest one that I might visit.

I recommend AMD and I think you will find that most techs on this forum will do the same. Higher quality, better performance, lower price.

Welcome Metgrad2001....
Only one way to go today. That's with the AMD XP series CPU.
Clock speed isn't the complete answer to a processor. Performance is the key.
The 1800 XP (1.53ghz) benchmarks better than the P4 in all aspects except Quake 3. The 1900 XP (1.6ghz) has arrived on the market this week.
With that being said... Why spend twice the $ for a P4 ?
Luck.

check out www.voodoopc.com (http://www.voodoopc.com)
I also recommend going with the AMD processor. More bang for your buck and I feel they're always edging out Intel.
Another good place to look is www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com)
Hope this helps!

Yes alien makes some the best equipment around. There is no shortcuts in there products, but you ll shell out about 2500 for a pc, and no monitor included.

If I was buying a high-end CPU today, I'd get the XP1600+ from newegg.com for $126 (free shipping).
Tom's Hardware Athlon XP Meets P4: A Comparison Of All CPUs (http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q4/011031/index.html) (Summary:
The new benchmarks we ran under Windows XP show that the AMD Athlon XP comes out marginally better than a comparable Intel Pentium 4. While Intel relies on high clock speeds of up to 2000 MHz, AMD's mature chip design gives it an added edge.)
