My dell inspiration 6000 went out of warranty about two months ago.
Last week it was completely dead. I ordered a new AC power cord but it still would not start.
I took it to a service center and they said my battery has overheated and damaged the laptop (battery is one of the recalled ones).
My question is: Since my warranty is over is Dell not at all responsible for repairs even though they were caused by a recalled battery.

I imagine they are responsible... ask them...

How long have you had it?

Your legal entitlement probably exceeds the rights granted by the seller [as provided to the seller by the manufacturer].
Manufacturers/sellers generally try to fool customers into thinking they only have rights to what THEY grant.
What are the laws on the subject in the country where this was bought?
In Scotland the period is about 5 years [can't remember exactly] where the buyer may have rights to compensation from the seller for an article that has failed in a major way.
If the seller refuses to give compensation the buyer can take him to the small claims court.
I did that for a washing machine that needed a major/expensive repair after 27 months of use, and they eventually conceded the cost of the repair.

Had I been more experienced and done the right things I could have got more [full entitlement to all damage caused, cost of alternative washing services].
