Just got me a new Acer 19" LCD 700:1, DVI/VGA, 8ms, and speakers..... I'm in heaven. My daughter think it's cool because her 17" CRT was just replaced by my old 17" NEC LCD.

19" CRT. I will be moving to a 19" or bigger LCD soon though.

Dual 21 inch Viewsonics

Where do you have your machine set up? the dining table?

Those aren't exactly small monitors...eat up some desk space.

I have a lowly 17" crt...mainly beacuse I ain't got the room for anything bigger, though some of the bigger lcds would probably fit...

We have 4 desktops in this house, (3 LCD, 1 using a Plasma TV).

My upstate PC uses a 19" CRT.

Yeah they're big, like 20-inches cubed. It was an opportunity I couldn't pass up though. My employer decided that a high-tech company needs to play the part, by replacing all the CRTs with LCDs.

These monitors support 2048x1536, tight dot pitch, no aperture grill, and have both 15pin and BNC inputs. I got them for a song at about $200 each. Fortunately for me, space isn't a concern since I am a homeowner and live alone. Plus, my office desktop is about 7x4 so I have to lean forward to even reach the controls.

Recently, I saw some brief coloration issues though. I fear that an unplanned upgrade, or more accurately a downgrade, may be in my near future.

On my main PC I have a Viewsonic G90mb 19" CRT and a Samsung 204T 20.1" LCD using the DVI port and I have my HP/Compaq NX9600 laptop hooked up to the analog port on the LCD.

On my other PC I have a Viewsonic G90fb 19" CRT

Windoze PC1 has a ViewSonic VP912B--TomsHardware's standard by which other LCDs are measured; superb

Linux box has an Acer 19" 8ms; very good

Test bed (whatever OS) has a 19" Dell UltraSharp LCD; very good

Stuff like this may not be interesting to some of you, but I'll share my observation in case it is. It seemed odd to me that the ViewSonic VP912B pop pop posted about has a 5:4 aspect ratio. The only display aspect ratios I was familar with were the standard 4:3 and widescreen 16:9.

Most of the commonly recognized display sizes use a 4:3 ratio, namely 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, and 1600x1200. The only anomaly being 1280x1024, which is 5:4. This seems especially odd to me, since all the others would appear stretched vertically, if the display even supports them.

Does anyone have any insight about the why the industry standard became 1280x1024 rather than 1280x960? The only thing I can think of is monitors intended for Desktop Publishers. If oriented as a tall, narrow screen they would support the already common width of 1024 pixels, while showing more of a page vertically.

Hope I am not the only one who is curious about this, but I bet at least one of you might be.

Panmgea33, all our PC's, (except one of the laptops), has 1280x1024, (laptop is 1280x768 widescreen). Oh, and the desktop hooked up to the TV is 1024x768.

123456,
I think Pangea33 already knows most of us with LCD screens have that resolution. He was asking why they picked that particular resolution.

Good question. I never thought about it. My guess is Saph may have some insight, not me.

My comment about this monitor/line being a standard was based on the fact that whenever TomsHardware runs a review of monitors, or LCD panels in general, like televisions, they almost always use this monitor/line as the "control" by which all others are measured. In the past, they selected it as the best of the best, in terms of performance and specs...guess that's why it's a standard.

Oddly, and unfortunately, ViewSonic discontinued it (sometime last year?),, so you can't buy a "new" one anymore. The replacement model (don't know the number) was reviewed by Toms and did not nearly meet the specs or performance of this one.

Got a 17" Benq FP737s LCD. running at 1280 x 1024.
I've got a 15" Benq LCD here as well, which I'll set up as a second monitor - as soon as I can dig out a PCI graphics card!
