I have a bunch of cat5 cable, crimp connectors, and a crimp tool. I need to make some cables to go from a router to a NIC card on a computer. I was just wondering how the wiring is on the connectors... is it just 1-to-1 for this application? or is it all reversed (1to8, 2to7, etc). thanks!
The standrad you should follow would be TIA 568B. That is if you want to do it properly anyway, and it isn't much harder to do it right so you might as well. For a standard "straight through" patch cable it is the same on both ends.

When you hold the connector with the tab down and look at it with the plug end facing forward.
