Hi gang!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I am so pleased right now! I finished building my very first system from scratch!! What a feeling of accomplishment! I am writing to you all right now from my new rig. Here's what I have now:

AMD AthlonXP 1.4GHz, 266 FSB "Palamino Core" (1600+)
MSI K7T266 Pro2 (MS-6380 V 2.0) VIA KT266A. 5PCI, 3DDR 4 USB
Tt Volcano Copper base 4550 RPM Heatsink/fan combo
256 MB DDR Crucial Ram CL2.5
MSI GeForce2 MX400 64 MB AGP Svideo out
Maxtor 40.9 GB 7200 RPM ATA-133 2 MB HDD
Acer 56x CD Rom
SB Live! Value 5.1
Acer KF45A Mid-tower w/300 W ps

Just let me say that I am pretty happy with what I have so far.

What I'd like to know is are there any recommendations from anyone here regarding my BIOS settings? I went in and tinkered and read my manual carefully, but I'm not sure if I did everything correctly. I'd just like to know if there is anything I should double check to make sure my system is running ideally...I'm mostly concerned with my clock speed, multiplier (if any)...things of that nature.

I also downloaded an update from the MSI site for my BIOS (4in1 v34) and I'll be darn-diddily-arned that I don't know where to extract it to...it's a self-extracting file.

Another thing I haven't mentioned, but I know I have to do, is get a few more case fans...one for the front sucking cool air in and one in the back blowing the warm air out.

I also downloaded the latest detonator drivers from NVidia, so I should be okay with those.

Sorry I'm all over the place here! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif I'm just so damn pleased with myself and my accomplishment! I'm also pleased that I just got hired at Future Shop (Best Buy) for full-time commissioned sales in their computer department!

Damn, my life is going just peachy keen. Too bad my wife is really mad at me for buying my new rig tho' http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Post away guys and gals!!

Help me out if I need it.... (?) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Congratulations on the First Build .
To answer one of your questions.
The Via4in1 driver update should be extracted into a temp or download folder.
If it is the same as the other 4in1 self-extracting files .
It will extract and place the needed windows drives into the system folders as needed .

Before you install the new fan in the front of the case.
You should pay a visit to the AMD site and look at the pages about air flow.
In some cases the fan in the bottom front of the case can and does restrict air flow the two or more exhaust fans.
I have 3 exhaust fan on my 1.2 and no in fan. ( One in Power supply and 2 case exhaust)

The Bios tweaks you use will depend on what you want or need most.
Bus, memory, cpu speed.
Taking them to a point where you still have Stable system and the performance you want.
To that end I would suggest checking some of the O/C sites and Bios tweak sites.

One weak point? The 300watt power supply
300 is the Minimum So When you start adding more to your system.
You may want to add a larger power supply first.

The BIOS update should probably go on a floppy...go back to the MSI site and see if they have instructions on where to put it.....

Kudo's

On the new PC.

On the new j-o-b.

Everyone has thier own way... But I like to run CMOS(BIOS) at default setting for a few days while sorting everything out.
Then when I'm http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif with the system I'll use the optimum setting and go from there.

Luck.
