Hi, I just got an IBM thinkpad R31 and it was working perfectly fine for like 2 weeks. It would start up, go into and out of sleep mode fine. But earlier today it started acting funny and I wasn't quite sure why. When I would press the mute button for sound, a staticy fuzz would come out of the speakers instead of silence. When I pressed the volume up/volume down button the static would go away but beeps would come in pairs every few seconds. They were very faint beeps but beeps. I wasn't quite sure what it was and I thought maybe a virus got on the computer. I scanned it with a viruskiller software and all it found was tracking cookies... so I just deleted those anyways. Oh and it wasn't doing this static thing before, just started. So I thought maybe the drivers got screwed up or something. I downloaded the latest drivers off of IBM's website. The problem still didn't go away. Well then I thought it might have been something I did to the system and I didn't know, so I restored the system 3 days back. The problem was still there. Also after the restore was done it said everything worked good and the restore was successfull. So I was just uneasy about the static thing. I turned it off and left it alone for a few hours. I come back to it and try and power it up. All that happens is the fan comes on and the green power light lights up. The screen doesn't do anything, it's like it wants to turn on but can't. I also noticed a strange noise coming from the notebook, it's a clicking noise. Sorry about this being one long paragraph but it's very late so that's my excuse for not paragraphing. Thanks for any help... I hope the system isn't fried!!!
