Hi- i hope someone can help me.
I have a computer that is giving me some problems.
I bought a memory card last year to upgrade the memory.
It worked fine until about 2 weeks ago.
Now the card does not seem to be recogonized.
also it says i only have 56 megs of ram. When it actually has a card in there for 64mbs. in addition to the card thats not working.
I;m running windows 98
Any ideas what i should do?
Thanks

Welcome to the PCGuide forums jediashe01.
Sounds like the stick of ram went bad. You can run Memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/#download0) from a bootable floppy or CD to check the ram for errors. Try the suspect stick by itself, if it doesn't boot it is likely bad.
What brand is the ram and where did you get it from? If it is a name brand like Corsair, Kingston, or crucial, they usually have a lifetime warranty and are very good about replacing the ram.
The difference in the ram showing up is most likely because you have onboard video and 8MB ram is allocated to the video. 64-8 (for video) =56MB.

Hello thanks for your reply- Yes its a kinston brand, But i no longer have the reciept, would i just contact the company and tell them? I tried to boot the computer with just the "bad" stick and it woudl not boot- just a bunch of beeping.
Also why is my one memory card that is 64 megs just now showing 56?
Thanks!!!

Did you see what I said before?

Go here to request an RMA for the ram. https://www.ec.kingston.com/web_rma/default.asp
