PROBLEM:
After fresh install of Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all the basic necessary drivers, I immediately started to notice errors popping up here and there, but at first, it was nothing that was a hindrance. Temperatures were stable, as well. And by the time I got to installing software (Mozilla, MPC, etc.)...I was receiving *CONSTANT* Installation errors. This package was corrupt, that package had an error...obviously not a single software issue.
I gave it time. I tried enabling Windows updates. Nothing helped. The errors grew so frequent, the computer was essentially useless. I couldn't even browse the net for thirty seconds...

So, I formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows. It's only a few hours later, and the errors are creeping back already. I can't even open Windows Media Player, 'cause I get an immediate error. I tried running a registry cleaner (Abexo Free) but I suppose that didn't help much.

Where do I go from here? Should I obtain another copy of Windows and reinstall that? Is there some sort of update or utility that might remedy this problem?

Any guidance or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

First thing I would do is to run a diagnostics check on the HDD.

Just finished running Diagnostics on the HDD: no errors found.

Here are some of the exact error messages, starting with the two I see most:

"Sorry _____.exe has experienced a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvienance."

"Error: Some installation files are corrupt, please download a fresh copy and retry the installation."

"Some data in your zip file is damaged - CRC check failed."

"Error: Unable to Extract setup.exe, the size of the extracted file does not match the uncompressed size recorded in the zip file."

:( Any thoughts?

Is that a retail version of Windows XP?

I actually isolated the problem - a DOA RAM module! That'll do it!

Got everything taken care of.

Thanks everyone for your help. :D
