Thanks for all the advice about the P4. I have decided to take a closer look at building my own pc. I need more info about components. All the websites from which I used to get computer news went belly up during the dotcom shakedown. Where can I find some reliable sources for unbiased news about imminent hardware releases? My first system was a 386sx. My current system is a Pentium 133MHz. I don't want to end up putting top-of-the-line components on a crappy mobo or a case with inadequate cooling. Can anyone recommend a quite power supply? Is 450 watts too much? Should I go with an Athlon XP or a P4? Are there any plans for the Athlon XP to support a higher FSB speed? I'm not looking for the ultimate overclockable machine. I want something fast, reliable, and stable.

Athlon xp by all means P4 (IMHO) isn't even in the same league. 450w power might as well that way you'll know you will have all the power you'll need for hook ups.As far as the case just make sure you get one with option and space for extra fans you can always cut in a fan if needed.

The top two "enthusiast" sites seem to be anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com) and tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com/).

The "Whispersys" models from Enermax seem to be the quietest high-power PSUs, from what I've read.
