Hi all,

I've been given a copy of XP Professional from work to try, however I'm not sure how well it'll run on a Celeron 500. I don't want to go to the trouble of installing it, only to find it can't handle it. My 98SE set up is cosy, however I'm keen to try XP.

System specs:

Aopen AX63 M/board; 384MB RAM, 10.2GB WD HDD, 32MB Jaton S3 Savage4 video.

The modem & sound card from Netcomm & Aopen have XP drivers. I can't seem to find an XP driver for the video card.

Is it worth trying anyway?

Try the XP HCL...here (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp)

Also the 500MHz is with in the minimum requirements for it to run.

The video card may be a problem...you would probably be limited to some thing like 640x480 and low colors (like 256) if it would even run with it at all.....

How much memory do you have?

hi,
I have it on a Duron 700Mhz and 256Mb of memory. It`s going great. I would install it. 500Mhz is not bad. You will seea bit of slow down but i think it will perform great.

You should be fine...I ran it on a K6-2 500 and it ran perfectly...and with 384mb ram, it will be happy...

As far as drivers...I haven't tried anything on XP yet that it didn't work with except one scanner...

A good example of XP's versatility that should impress most anyone: installed on a Compaq laptop and it had drivers for everything on the system...video, sound, even the proprietary Compaq modem...

If there's one thing good about XP it's wide driver support...
