I'm thinking of getting a P4. Probably a 1.4-1.7. Any suggestions on a Mobo or chipset? I haven't followed this much lately, so I'm a little out of date.
Mainly plan on using for general purposes (mainly doing homework), some gaming, and internet. I want to run multiple OS's (WINXP, 2000, and Linux).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Why cripple yourself with a chip that's way too expensive, already has an outdated pinout ( courtsy of intel's newer P4 } and doesn't perform up to specs when placed against a comparable Athlon?!

It would be financially and performance wise smarter to go with the Athlon XP series ( or just the slightly older T-birds ) where you would pay less and get more performance out of the CPU. I'm not being biased against Intel because i believe they are bad-just going by personal experiance, and the hundreds of reviews you can find in magazines, the net, etc..
