This is going to sound like a stupid question, But if you put a cmos battery in upside down what is the most likely thing to overheat and go out?
Most of the time, from my experience...nothing but the battery itself. The CMOS won't hold data witht it in wrong, so it will act as if the battery were dead.

o.k. Here's what I got. This is the same system I was having problems with a few days ago. I put a new cmos battery in and tried to boot it. The first time all I got was the first screen where there is a list of all the copy rights. Then it went to the next screen and asked for cmos info. I gave it all of that then saved changes and exit. When it rebooted it got all the way to checking nvram then stuck. again ! So out of desperation, I took a ram stick out of my computer that I know works, Put it in and it still won't go past checking nvram. What am I missing ? My frustration is beginning to show.
What type of problems was it having a few days ago?

The guy that owns it brought it to me cause it quit booting. When I tried it the cmos battery was bad. I put a new one in it and it booted all the way to checking nvram then quit. After trying a lot of everything I accidently it f7 while trying to boot and it worked so I sent it home. On the way to take it home somehow the battery came out. When he put it back in he put it in upside down and now I have it back. It was posted under Please tell me this is simple, in core hardware.
