I have a new system on the drawing board.
The Abit KR7A-RAID motherboard appears to be my choice. I’ve read all available reviews, and checked Abit forums, but wish to know if there is anything negative about this board that I am missing. The first of these mobos are up and running, and I’m asking if anyone has knowledge of major problems that have appeared since introduction. What about the Apollo KT266A chipset in general?
What board equals or surpasses it?…… Factual info that will burst my bubble, would be appreciated.

The thing that impresses me about the KT266A chipset is that it will really play ball with the AMD XP proccessor. As in SSE etc.
nVidia was going to try and dominate the chipset market with their new Mboard chipset. nVidia really hyped this as something the other chipsets couldn't run with. ie: benchmarks etc. BUT the KT266A matched right up with it.
Always pretty good reviews at www.hardocp.com (http://www.hardocp.com)
Luck.

Reviews of KG7 that I looked at were not overly flattering. I did not consider the KG7 as it has a hybrid chipset and has proven to be problematical (most fixed with bios upgrades). Abit did not rush into manufacture of KT266 based board for good reason. They used KG7 as stopgap. Current production of KG7 appears problem free, but if you want one, buy fast cause looks like the run is about done.
I am currently running a KT7A-RAID, which has performed flawlessly running w98se w/o bios upgrades. The KR7A-RAID will replace a much older machine and get top billing (for a year).
Questions on Abit forums are from guys putting cables in wrong way around etc. No real problems that I saw.
I did not look very closely at EpoX, Asus, or MSI as review sites have done the comparisons and KR7A is the undisputed winner.
The only negative that I’ve seen on KR7A is that it does not take advantage of the thermal info from the XP chip.
Ranchdog, diurnal, Thanks!
