Thanks for all your previous comments. After one dysfunctional MB was replaced, system is running like a dream.
Initial Windows XP and Photoshop5 and other software conflicts related to faulty MB. Not overclocked, just settling into bugfree config first. Might go for a noisy WBK38. USB2 disabled.
