What kind of connection?

Who is your ISP?

What has already been tested/checked/tried?

(If you have other posts on this issue, links will be fine).

Does the router have the option to connect to the computer by a LAN connection or just the USB?

Have you checked email programs for any disconnect after retrieving email settings?

When the machine drops the connection does it generate an error message or does the connection just die?

USB only!
Not yet checked but will

Error message reads: Disconnected

It is hard to say if it is really a network problem or a USB problem, without being able to test it.

I guess you can try a direct connection, by passing the router or is it a modem/router?

After a thorough check I have come to the conclusion it is an USB problem (And a lot off help from Srinath in India lol). The USB indicator light in the router keeps flashing and is not steady! How to fix it that is the question???

I would say your best bet would be to trade the USB model for a nonUSB model and use a network connection

Since it seems to have been acting up with two different USB devices, I'd say the problem lies with the computer itself.

I've seen poor USB performance as the result of weak or borderline power supply. Also drivers can be a problem...especially if you are not using the actual chipset drivers for the motherboard, if just using the generic Windows drivers, that could be the basis for a number of problems. Cheap/bad cables, too many devices on a single controller (use a POWERED hub).
