I've been shopping around for a sound card but I am unsure of which one to choose. I've narrowed my choices down to the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX and the Hercules Theater XP. Any suggestions of which is better out of the two? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think you should go with the more trusted brand..Creative labs. Only reason is because it is more used an known.

Guess I'll play devil's advocate...

I use a Creative Labs Sound Blaster, have used it for a long time and like it well.

On the other hand, Hercules has been around as long as Creative Labs, possibly longer. I have an IBM PC, (XT) with a Hercules video card in it. they have been making good components for a long time, and I don't know much about their newer ones, but the Hercules CGA video card is still going strong after 12 years or more.

Jromero did have a very good point, Creative is a very well known and trusted company, and since the Sound Blaster I'm using has worked great for 6 years and shows no signs of being ready to quit now, I'd go with another Creative Labs card without hesitation.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I know very little about the newer Hercules parts. Take a look around at some of the review sites, look up reviews on both, and make an educated decision. Personally, I would probably prefer the Creative Labs card too...but had to put a good word in for Hercules, they've been in the business from the very earliest days of PCs.
