While running along yesterday, fat, dumb, and happy, my computer crashed big time. After exploring the possibilites, it became necessary to use the restore discs made when I bought the comp 3 years ago. After a few hours I'm back up and running, sort of.. My 80 gig hard drive is still filled with the music files and internet radio files which I can't access.. {27 gigs} Is there any way to remove those files so that I can start over? Any help would be appreciated. cslunger

You need to be more explicit.
Is there only one [the 80 GB] HDD in the PC?
Is there more than one partition on that HDD?
Did the restore disk restore only C:?
Are the [music & radio] data files on one or more partitions other than C:?
Have you any idea why you cannot access them?
What do you envisage doing to "start over", and why do you need to remove the data files to do that?

See...
I have the contents of all my partitions [the data files are all off C:] backed up to image files on an external HDD.
If I needed to scrap my HDD and get a new one up and running, all I'd need to do is partition and format the new HDD with suitable sized partitions, then restore the images to those using "Image for DOS" on a bootable floppy.
Job done. :D

So I'm not quite sure where you're coming from.

There is only one 80 gig hd. It is not partitioned. I'm assuming that the files are still there, because the hard drive is quite full of things that I can't access. I wouldn't mind losing them, if I could re claim the space..

"the hard drive is quite full of things that I can't access"
If you only have now, a single [80 GB] partition, and it's the same as 3 years ago, and you have just used your restore disks to make the drive as it was back then when first supplied...
Then I'd expect all your data files to be overwritten; the 27 GB of music and radio files.
So I don't understand why you cannot access those files, and what are they?
Have you configured the OS [which Windows?] to show all hidden files?
Are you logged in as supervisor?
And given that account full power to do EVERYTHING.
What's telling you the drive is full?
You need a good program that gives a breakdown of HDD space usage.
And which file types, in which folders, are using the most space.
Is the Recycle Bin empty or what?

All what Sylvander says PLUS:

Do you want to recover some of the music etc files? Do you have a cd burner or other sort of backup storage at your disposal such as an external harddrive? Get Data Back comes to mind if you'd like to save some of your collection.

I am very confused as to why you say you have restored fully but there are inaccessible files/folders. Perhaps a program that uses a special file type that the restore disks did not provide?

Best thing to do at this point is to describe in full, the events which led up to your reinstalling and what add-ons were there which are not now if any, then how you went about the restoration and eventually where your pc 'sits' as of now?

File types, such as mp3's, programs such as media players/rippers or studio mixer/recorders, etc...

Before you do anything,

Please explain what you mean by you can't access them. If they are there, how do you know their their? Do you get an error message?

Need more detail in order to figure out what is going on.
