It seems that I have a unique problem. Every time I install a windows update, my printer drivers or printer port gets corrupted somehow. I started doing research by contacting the printer manufacturer, but determined that there is nothing wrong with my printer disk or drivers. So the problem lies inside my computer somewhere,,,,,but that is the $64 dollar question...where?
So, everytime this corruption happens, I have to unistall the printer port, then restart my computer which automatically reinstalls the port because the computer detects a printer connected to the computer without an associated port. The compter then tries to make me install printer drivers, but this too is false, and I eventually get out of that loop and somehow the printer comes online and I can print again until the next windows update comes out.
So, this time, when another windows update came out, I tried to cancel out of it but couldn't. Then I searched the windows update home page for a way to turn it off, but couldn't find that either. I then decided to ignor the icon and just carried on with my other work. 2 days later (today), while I was downstairs making and eating lunch, windows update decided that it had been waiting long enough for me to install it, and it installed itself! By the time I was back sitting at my computer, the restart had already occurred and yes, the inevidable happened -- printer was offline..................AGAIN.
This time I installed a duplicate set of printer drivers and installed them to my printer and faxes folder in the control panel. Then deleted the old printer set of drivers, and voila! Printer works again.
Any guesses, comments, hints, or actual help, would really be appreciated to get me out of this vicious cycle.
Thanks
William
