Has anyone had any luck using Vista's Search tool? I can't get it to work right. ~Frank~

I tried it yesterday and gave up with it. I tried looking for a specific file I had created without luck and then I tried looking for the pre-installed JPG's. Finaly got some (6) of these but trying to track location was almost imposible

I had the same problem, Ernie. I looked for files that I know are on the computer. Sometimes it found one, but most of the time it didn't make any sense in what it came up with. But the first line in every help topic mentions the fact that since this is the beta version, some of the information may be inaccurate or missing.

Have you tried to reset the search indexing files?

I did some reading on the Indexing Engines and found out that it will not search all folders since it would take too long. So I added C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 and then looked for a couple of files that were in system32. It still didn't find them.

I guess that this is one of the areas that don't work to well. I will muck about with search on Wednesday (I am busy tomorrow) and let you know how I get on

OK, Ernie, I'll do the same thing and post back if I come up with anything positive....but, don't hold your breath.:)

I noticed the same thing. I'm thinking it just may be a little quirky in this version (I'm going to assume you're running RC1?)

I'm not sure what RC1 is, Max. What I have is the latest beta release of Vista called the Ultimate. It is my understanding that there are 3 or 4 different versions of Vista unlike XP's 2 versions--Home and Pro. The one I have is the Ultimate.
And yes, the search feature is very quirky to say the least.

RC1 is the release version name. ("RELEASE CANDIDATE 1") as opposed to BETA 2 etc. and this is the ULTIMATE version of vista (or if you like the top of the range.) RC1 is supposed to signify (imply) that it almost ready for public release.
