Hi,
Just wondering if any1 knows what is stopping me connecting to my PC from work using RealVNC. It works fine using logmein.com but i'm just wanting to see what RealVNC is like, just for curiosity (and also, i'm gonna be using it soon at work anyway).

My home pc and router are setup, using no-ip also to forward the ip address to an 'easy to remember' address. All relevant ports have been opened. Can't connect using VNC as the request times out.

From work, i'm not even able to ping my home pc even when i know it's on. Get a request timed out message.

Any ideas??

It could be that your home PC is asking for permission to allow access, and as you are not there it refuses connection.

It is 2 or 3 of years since I mucked about with TIGHT-VNC but as far as I remember I had to enter my PC's vnc) password to do so. The setting for this can be found in VNC setup somewhere. Also if I remember correctly you need the server on one computer and the client installed on the other.

I know that is not much help but it will hopefully point you in the right direction.

If possble try setting up a home-network (with both PC's in the same room) to test out your vnc access\connection. Use the 2nd PC to access your main PC and by doing this you will see exactly what happens when you try to access your main PC.

Here is the link for the TIGHT vnc documentation which is almost the same (just fewer facillities) as REAL vnc

See the thing is its not asking for anything at home because I can see whats going on because im logged on using logmein.com at the same time. Strange! Maybe because im going through a VPN at work, may be the issue.
