I got a pretty nice offer for a 1ghz laptop, but I'm not sure If I want to buy it.
I want to buy the best deal, even though I'm probably going to use it for games.
I'm okay with everything except the system bus. Usually, I thought that the system bus would be much faster than 133mhz, especially since it's a 1ghz computer and it's a P3.
Normally the price of this computer is about $1700, should I buy it?

Hello Kenton and welcome,
WOW, what a deal. If your not sure on this one, let me know where its at. I'll come to San Jose for it! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
No really, that is a nice price, have you shopped it around some of the internet sites? Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com), Netlux (http://www.netlux.com) , CompGeeks (http://www.computergeeks.com)
You are likely to get some "NO's" from some of the others here, but I like my Compaq laptop alot. I am on it on the internet probably 5 hours a day, plus a couple more hours working off line. I have had very few problems (Win-ME) and it has held up to my kids too.
One recommendation, get the full restore disks from Compaq. With a 30 G HDD, you wont have a problem space, but I would get rid of the Quick Restore crap on the second partition (I have a thing about unneeded stuff on my HDD).
As for the 133Mgh bus, I would have to research specs to know for sure, but I think 1Ghz boards were only up to 133. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Not sure on that.
Good luck

Kenton;
Pentium III's are either 100, or 133 on the FSB. The P4's are actually "Quad Pumped" 100's sending 4 bits per clock tick for an effective 400 Mhz FSB. The AMD's are 100, or 133 with some of them "doubled" to 200, or 266Mhz FSB's by sending 2 bits per clock tick. They are still front side busses running at 100, or 133 clocks.
