Hi everyone. I am having a problem with IE.
My IE version is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr_.050301-1519.

For some reason I was online and doing a search and I had multiple IE windows minimized and then double clicked on another potential search from google and the page loaded for a split second and then all of my IE windows were gone and I was back to the desktop. Nothing else was affected. This just happened and all of a sudden. I had no prior indication of malware/spyware or any decrease in performance you would expect if the problem were constant, growing or significant.

Now, EVERYTIME I double click the IE icon on the desktop or from the quick lauch, the web page loads for a split second and then I am back at the desktop once again. HOWEVER, if I load an explorer window from within windows and go to a site that way, it loads fine and I can navigate that page in the sites entirety. I can even go to other sites if I use the original explorer window I initially used to get the page to load, BUT if I CTRL+N to load a new page, it repeats the process and all IE windows created by using the windows explorer window disappear and I am back at the desktop. There is a 2 second pause before my icons and such become visible. I haven't installed any new hardware or software recently. I even tried to use system restore to solve the problem, but it was turned off so I couldn't use it. I don't think I have any spyware on my computer. Sure, I could have some....doesn't everybody? I run ad-aware every day and have never had a problem like this before.

Any ideas to what may be causing this problem? The computer is a Dell 8250 - P4 - 2.66Ghz with 1 GB memory.

Any information you can provide would be most appreciated! Should I download Netscape/Firefox???

Thanks!

~Gwen

Gwen,
Adaware is one decent tool but it does not protect you against every threat out there.
It might be a good time to download HiJackThis version 1.91 and unzip into a new folder you create on the HDD (use Windows Explorer and create a new folder). Scan the PC and make a log. Copy/Paste the log into posts here in the Applications & Security forum and wait until the readers examine the log. The program helps us see what is going on in your PC.
Oh yeah, also make certain no folders/files are hidden.

You can find the HJT here:

Thanks so much PrntRhd. After reading your post yesterday, I turned off the computer and used one of my other computers and this morning when I turned on the machine which had the problems yesterday, the problem seems to have been mysteriously resolved. I did download HiJackThis and scanned my system and saved the results to a log which I am now going to post in the Applications & Security forum as you suggested.

Have a GREAT day....It's FRIDAY!!!

I suspect that you had a bad run of IE and when you rebooted it was stopped... If that happens again, look in Task Manager to see if IE is running in Processes and turn it off it you find it, then try to run IE again... I have had that happen a number of times...

I will check your HJT log...
