What I was trying to do is get XP to remote desktop into a 98 machine.

I understand that the desktop needs to be served and Win98 wont do that with the XP Remote Desktop installed. I read that I need to install a desktop server on the Win98 machine, and NetMeeting will do it. I installed it and sure enough it has the capability to serve the desktop, but I still can't get the XP machine to log into it (I've enabled it from the NetMeeting tray icon). I'm signing in as the same user (admin). It does work the other way though with just Remote Desktop.

I thought that NetMeeting might not be able to serve to a Remote Desktop client, so I tried to install netmeeting on my XP machine, but it won't install on "that" version of windows.

Don't know what I'm missing now?

I have used Netmeeting to view [the desktop] and control another PC in Oregon USA from here in Scotland.
But I believe the versions of Netmeeting must match, and when the person on the other end changed versions the setup no longer worked.

I believe other [third party] programs have greater compatibility between Operating Systems.

This was in my "Bookmarks" http://www.justremoteit.co.uk/
Don't know if it does what you want.

Netmeeting is native to WinXP but is started by entering conf into the run box. It gets setup at C:\Program Files\NetMeeting.

Not sure if Win98 also uses version 3.01 but, yes, both communicating systems should use the same version.

I find it easiest to first connect the two PCs using MSN messenger and then covert over to Netmeeting once you have established a chat on MSN.

That's cool. I ran the conf application to setup netmeeting and called the Win98 machine, and it worked!

Thank you!!!
