I've been a current observer of the forum for some time now, and i'm finally throwing my two cents in now. I'm in the process of building my own computer now finally (saved me some bucks), but i've been building them forever for my friends now, so i'm an expert in this situation. What i'm in need for now is the specifics on what you master geeks have on the top of the line computers parts around the net. I've been doing research for like a month now, and heard lots of rumors as of late: go with raid, athlon xp more than, geforce 3 and what not. but i'm also hearing that nvidia is coming out with the geforce 4 now, and pioneer or panasonic, has made a new ram memory stick capable of speeds up to 800mghz. Now to get specific as to what i'm going to be doing here is this: i already have my os, video, and sound card picked out, so its the rest that i'm pondering on so far. I'm gonna demand pretty much everything from my computer since i'll be doing multitasking, gaming, music, photoshop, rendering for lightwave and maya (by the way, thats juices my cpu resources!) network handling, serving, etc. pretty much i'm doing everything you can think of. you guys don't have to worry about getting technical on me ok, overclocking, bios, code, i'm familiar with all that lingo. What i'm really asking you guys is your opinions and responses as what your dream system would be, since that is my true goal at this point. i have about 4900 dollars to spend right now, so its safe to say that i can pretty much afford any expensive product you throw at me. the more responses i get guys, the better, and i'm assuming that i am gonna get a lot from you too.
alright then, any questions you have for me, don't hesitate, ski is out.........

Expensive doesn't always=better.

I've really enjoyed my K7S5a board-now i notice they have a new K7S6a board out that will support the new 333mhz DDR. ( these are from ECS ).

Pretty much all i can recommend is to stick with AMD CPU's, go with a geforce 3 for now-there still aren't but a few games that support it's advance features. 40-80 GB drive should be plenty-within a year or two they should be introducing the new serial ATA standards-which will mean a whole new motherboard setup, and hard drive.

Some of the most reputable motherboard manufactures i've used are ; Epox ASUS-requires a lot of tweaking tho ABIT GIGABYTE MSI ECS TYAN I've used or have in my possesion now, at least one or more of these manufactorers over the years, tho i'll have to say i am kinda fond of the Epox boards-never had a bad one from them yet.

You're now in that stage where you've got the cash-and the case of " indecsions " http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah i worked with fic, biostar, msi, abit , asus, and one pentium board, forgot the name of it. Like iisbob said stick with AMD. And with all that money i would go with the 1900XP AMD processer, and a superdupa heatsink. Of course go with the geforce 3TI500, and sound card i would go Audigy.

Out of all those boards i have to say MSI is the best i worked with, so thats what i would suggest. And of course get DDR. And if there is a 333MHZ board, i would go with that. I never used ECS, so i would not know. And thats bout it. SEE YA http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

in response to your reply there diurnal is don't lend out your password to relatives such as "cousins" because apparently they like to use other people's user names for the own purpose on the forum, so i apologize for that one there.
