My best buddy wants a 17” flat panel monitor (lcd )
I am totally without knowledge re this subject.
Am not trying to be lazy, just need some direction re purchase.
Is there any reason to consider “generic’ brands?
Good brand/model info would be helpful.
Found a few reviews, but having minimal luck so far.
Newegg has this: NEC MultiSync LCD1700M for $709

monitor (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=20&manufactory=1326&DEPA=1)

help please

I've seen the 15" model you have described. A friend of mine who runs a business uses it on his server. Every once in a while shipping has been delayed and he uses this one to fill an order for a customer. He hates it when it has to be replaced by a crt monitor. Excellent picture!!! Too late to edit.
Are all units TFT (unless stated otherwise)?

"Are all units TFT..." As far as I know.

I advise inspecting an LCD in person before purchasing. From Newegg's description of the Gemstars: "Dead Pixels Policy: Replacement and Refund for 8 or more DEAD PIXELS ONLY!"
