My current computer uses an Adaptec 2940 SCSI card. Connected to the card are 2 SCSI hard drives, a Syjet, and a Conner Tape Back-up. I want to build a new system using a motherboard with a built-in ATA hard drive controller and ATA hard drives. I would like to continue to use the Syjet and Conner Tape back-up from the old computer. Can I still use the Adaptec SCSI contoller card in conjunction with the built-in ATA controller without conflicts?

Hi,

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yes. The 2940 is a good card. You shouldn't have any problems.

When you build the new system, don't install the SCSI card right away. Leave it until one of the last things to add in.

Start with just the video card. Get an operating system installed and make sure you go to the update site and get all critical updates, etc. This is assuming you're running Windows. Then, add in your soundcard and other peripherals if you have any, one at a time. After the installation of each one, make sure there are no conflicts and everything is running tip top. Then, add the SCSI card last. You may want to check the Adaptec site and make sure you have the lastest firmware, BIOS and drivers for the 2940 card.

Good luck and have fun.
