I have somewhat of a problem, for which someone here may be able to offer a simple solution:

At work, I am constantly traveling between two different buildings (A and B). I have a laptop at work, which I bring with me every time I go to Building B.

The problem:

The network segment in Building B uses DHCP, while the network segment in Building A uses static IP addressing. The problem is that I have to change the settings of the LAN each time I travel back and forth.

For example, I am at Building A, shut down my computer and travel to Building B. When I get to Building B, I try to log in, but naturally the computer cannot connect to the network (we're talking essentially about one domain). I then have to log in locally with my local administrator account, change the TCP/IP settings, log out and then log back in using my domain account and credentials...

Does anyone know of a way I can easily toggle back and forth between two (or more) networking profiles - and here's the catch - before I even attempt to log into Windows? I am aware of some tools I can use from within Windows to quickly change network settings, but this would not really solve the problem at hand...

If it helps, the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite S5100-503.

Thanks for any ideas...

Never mind, I somehow stumbled accross the answer to my query after playing around a little bit. I'll tell here how I was able to make it work, just in case someone else would like to accomplish a similar feat...

When you open the properties window of the TCP/IP settings, there is a second tab (I had never noticed this tab before). Anyway, to make a long story short, this tab is called "Alternative Configuration" and allows you to set up an, as its name implies, second connection...

So to solve my problem, I set up the main connection to be DHCP and the alternate connection with my static address. Then when I log in, my computer looks for a DHCP server, and if it can't find one, it will automatically give me the alternate address...
