Hmmmm.....
1040 is unavailable. Out of stock.
1040B is P4 ready. Meaning the PSU wiring harness has that extra connector needed for a P4 Mboard.
That's all I can see.

What Mother board are you installing?
The connector for the P4 and the connector for some of the other systems out there use a different connector.
The P4 uses a 4 pin 12Volt square connector
While others use the Auxiliary connector 6 pin connector . (Rectangle )
You may want to contact then and see if that 400watt has one or Both connectors

The only diference is the color
Both are P4 ready but will support an Athlon board and CPU just no place for the extra P4 power connector and the extra cash is for the color
Both have the same PSU 400W pp412
Here is a link to the PSU (http://www.antec-inc.com/product/powers/pp412x.htm) that is in both cases. I was thinking of buying that case but ended up buying a cheaper one insted. I wish I had baught that one now and I don't care what color it is LOL
Hereis a link to a review (http://www.pcnineoneone.com/reviews/other/asx1040_1.html) of that case

YODA, this pc is perfect for your needs and abilities, I think http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles%2Fhardware%2F1999%2Fh 0212%2F55h12%2Easp&guid=vt60p4pi&searchtype=0&WordList=Gateway+Astro
If you're a user who is constantly tweaking, adjusting, and upgrading a system, you'll probably want to pass on this machine.
From my experience discussing what is right for someones abilities when you don't even investigate what they are is openning yourself to a world of hurt......if you feel the need for training wheels in your computing life then please feel free to use whatever computer you desire, but if you actually read the review and the the question you answered you would notice that the person you responded to is way beyond training wheels and is into "hot-rodding"......

mjc-If the person is into hotrodding, why is he/she asking for help with buying a pc? It's a safe bet with your abilities considered, for you and YODA to stick with the all in one design of the Gateway Astro. Don't get in over your head.

I agree, you don't even have to buy speakers, they are built right in to the system. It's a good bet for these folks.
