What version of XP (Home/Pro)?

The IP address for the wireless connection indicates a DHCP error. The results say that autoconfig is on...but check to make sure.

Right click on the wireless connectoid, under Network Connections an select properties...on the first page, select the TCP/IP protocol...and then its properties. Make sure everything is set to auto...

Did you set up the wireless router? In order to connect wirelessly the router needs to be set up. It is usually a check box. Since you didnt mention channel, SSID or encryption settings, I assume the wireless router is not configured.

how do i do that i set it up with the disc that came with it and checked all the settings, everything seems ok and it recognises the router but it just keeps saying acquiring network settings all the time

The Orange(Wanadoo) livebox is very particular about which wireless adaptors it will work with. I got so fed up with it, it's now back in the box, and I got a new netgear router.
