Hello All,

I have just purchased a new HP Media Centre PC, 3.2 Duo, 2 Gb Ram, Geforce 7600 with 512Mb etc. It came with a 19" Sony TFT and everything seemed fine. I decided I would rather use my Sony Xblack 17" TFT and I very soon noticed a 'flicker effect'. Mostly noticible when displaying white text on blue background (Desktop). The text seemed to flicker. Sometimes the screen displayed an effect like a moving haze on a hot summer day. These effects were not 'in your face' noticible but were very apparent the longer you looked. I seem to have solved the problem but I am a little concerned about how I have done it. I believe TFT monitors are supposed to operate at 60Hz refresh rates. This was the only rate available in my video display settings. I used the option to display all refresh rates and then set it to 70Hz. The problem seems to have been resolved. Question...Why should I have to do this, and will it be detrimental to the Dislay panel? Many thanks for any thoughts on this.

TFTs don't actually use a refresh rate - although the graphics cards usually default as you mentioned to 60Hz.
It could be that your system has been set up by HP with an oddball driver, and that wouldn't surprise me.
I'd go into the driver section and chose a generic vga driver, then uninstall the graphics card through device mangler.
Then reboot and let it configure itself. with a bit of luck it will auto detect everything it needs and you can get on with things.
If not, get a geforce driver from online - they are available from nvidia.
