I was one day messing around with the Task Manager...I closed a couple os processes that were recommeneded as "malicious"...and I guess they were important. Anyway, on my Lenovo thinkpad z60m, my green volume bars that are supposed to show up when I turn the volume up or down, dont work at all.....has anybody ever heard of this happening or know how to fix it????

god its the worst, heh the same happens to me all time, thus means something is probably wrong with your Sound Card, even if Windows reports it as fully operational, the same happened with me on my Compaq, the ESS Allegro sound chip was reported as fully operational, i un-installed and re-installed the program to load up the drivers over and over, and even installed them manually, but after it wouldnt work, i just installed a PCI sound card, which in the farthermost extent might be what you have to do, now i dont know much about laptops, but im sure they make/made a sound card for whatever bus it might contain

If you are talking about an onscreen display when you press the volume buttons on a multimedia keyboard...then there is nothing at all wrong with your sound card. It is your keyboard that is missing something.

Most likely you have shut off the program that provides all the 'extras' for the keyboard. Yes, the keyboard will work with the basic windows drivers, but many of the added 'features' won't, especially any OSDs.
