Need info on upgrading processor.

I currently have an AMD-K7 550Mhz. I would like to upgrade this. Do I have to stay with the AMD-K7 or can I use something else? I use my computer for work, school, gaming, photos, and .mp3's. Any suggestions on what I should put in it? This is an old second hand system, so money is to be considered. It also needs to be simple, for I have never changed cpu's before, so I need things to be compatible or I will be lost.

Well, in order to know what you can go to we need know what motherboard you currently have...so any and all info you have about it would be welcome.

You will need to stick with an AMD chip if you do not plan on changing your motherboard. If it is a socket A series board you will probably have more options than if it is a slot A board.
