If you are trying to connect the S-video via a DVD player, you will have a hard time making it work.

If your DVD player is, in fact, a DVD player, what you have probably done is connected the S-video output from the DVD player to the S-video output of the video card, which is not good, so if this is the case, it would be a very good idea to unplug that lead right about now...
:D

If your "Player" is, in fact, a DVD recorder, then you will have better luck, however, if the DVD recorder does not have an S-video input(many DON'T), you must convert the S-video to composite video(standard yellow plug-and-socket used on all videos & TV's) first.

This involves combining the two signals that make up S-video; Chrominance(the colour signal) and Luminance(the Black-and-White component of the signal).

Most electronic shops sell cheap nasty adaptors which convert S-video to composite, however, these adaptors are lossy, and degrade the picture in the process.

The best way to convert S-video to composite is with an active video converter. These can be built or purchased ready-built. As luck would have it, Silicon Chip (www.siliconchip.com.au) magazine have one in this month's issue, however, it has not yet turned up on their site, but if you were to check back in a few days, I'm sure that it will be there then...
