The article says that they will operate independantly, but I wonder what will happen with Google Video. Maybe the two services will merge.

Nothing like buying the competition to your own service, eh?

I do think they overpaid for what they get.

This is absolutely hilarious to me PrntRhd, especially in light of a debate we were having in this thread: http://pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=50324

I feel like a puppy whose eye's have finally opened. Google pumps $1.65 Billion worth of stock into a company that does what Google Video already does, neither of which have a feasible profit model.

They'll realize this fact after it's far too late, the stock value will plummet, and only the respective top brass entities will profit from this. In the end, it's everyone who benefits from the other Google technologies that will suffer. Namely the consumers who use their services.

I just hope that they clean it up... I have been attacked on YouTube and I have seen other people post about malware attacks from there... Google has some experience with setting up protections...

I think it will be a viable commercial enterprise in that they will sell lots of ads... YouTube has become extremely popular in a brief time...

Oops, I guess it was me and classic having the debate. The rest of my sentiments still apply though.

It was a stock swap. Standard internet company stuff. 1.6 billion does seem a high for a company who has yet to make a profit. I think it will follow the napster model. It is popular because it is free. Take away "free" and you are going to take away eyeballs. Bad move for Google but they can afford it. Great move for two guys and an idea. As Brother Jackson says "Keep Hope Alive!" and that is what this type of deal does. It keeps the dreamers dreaming and the internet culture moving forward.

While I currently think this could never be a success, I felt the same way about the Google IPO at $85. Just like I did about the incredibly short 15 day lockup period... and when their stock broke $200... and $300. You get the point.

If I was so d**ned smart, I probably have solid gold robotic monkeys typing my posts for me by now.
