Hi,
I have currently a 250W power supply, powering a HD (8G) a CDROM and everything else (MB,2Fans,CPUFAN,Floppy etc).
I intend to buy an additional HD (around 40G) and a CD-RW (24-10-40).
Do I also need to buy a stronger power supply unit, or will I be OK
with the one I have?

Thanks

You'll get better performance if you upgrade the PSU to 400watts, besides aren't you running out power connectors. I know you can get Y connecters but I would go with more watts for guarantee good performance.

If you have enough connectors , you could stick with the one you have. But like wiltrot said i would go with more wattage. It will improve performance as well and take some stress off you powersupply.

the 250 w ps should be ok. i have a 250 w ps running 2 hard drives, a cd-rom, cd-rw, zip, floppy, case fan, cpu, cpu fan, mobo. may seem like a lot of power, but if you look up the power consumption of each component that you have, you will see that the power req'd for most of these items to idle or be in standby is not very high. for instance, the wattage on one of my hard drives while idling is 6.6 w and max. watts used by the hard drive is 12.9. look at it this way, how many times will every component in a system be running at its max. power consumption? never. my computer has run like a scalded dog for a long time now (i rarely shut it off), and i have not had any problems. so i would recommend using your existing power supply for now, if you experience power related problems, then purchase a more powerful ps.

Gossamer, there is one area where you are a little off the mark....every time you power up, all your devices use max power for anywhere from a split second to over a second....powering up is the most taxing time for a powersupply, so you are able to get by with it because you don't power up often...
